Quemadero
Seafood and grilled meats cooked over fire, on the Malecón
Note: Written QUEMADERO on its sign and website.
Quemadero is a restaurant on the Malecón, at Paseo Álvaro Obregón 1558, where almost everything is cooked over open flame and embers. "Todo pasa por el fuego" (everything goes through the fire), the restaurant says, and its cooking draws on the Pacific coast and the desert of Baja California. Its kitchen is led by chef Alejandro Villagómez, who also runs NEMI, OSO and Azotea in La Paz.
The menu is built around seafood and the grill: Quemadero's own clams and oysters, an abalone tiradito, camarones zarandeados, smoked chicken and an Angus rib eye, plus fire-roasted beets, salads, pastas and desserts. There are vegan and gluten-free options, and the bar is known for its cocktails.
It is open every day from 2 PM to 11 PM, with outdoor seating and a private dining room. This is one of the more expensive places in town: diners on Google put it at MX$1,000 or more per person. Booking ahead is recommended, especially at weekends, through OpenTable or by phone. Private rooms and custom menus are available for celebrations and company events.
