Aramburo Supermarkets

La Paz's long-established local supermarket chain — now transitioning to Chedraui ownership

Note: As of early 2025, Aramburo was acquired by Chedraui. Stores may be operating under the Aramburo name during a transition period of approximately one year. Confirm current branding before visiting.

Aramburo has been a cornerstone of La Paz grocery shopping for decades — a locally rooted chain with multiple locations across the city, known for a more personal feel than the big-box national chains. For longtime La Paz residents and expats, Aramburo has long been the neighborhood supermarket of choice for everyday shopping.

Important 2025 update: Chedraui, one of Mexico's largest supermarket groups, acquired Aramburo in early 2025. The transition is expected to be gradual — stores may continue operating under the Aramburo name for approximately one year before being rebranded to Chedraui. If you're visiting La Paz in 2025 or 2026, some or all locations may have already transitioned.

Aramburo operated three main supermarket locations in La Paz — in the downtown/Centro area (Calle 16 de Septiembre / Madero / Hidalgo corridor), on Forjadores, and a third location — plus several smaller minimarts throughout the city. All are expected to eventually rebrand to Chedraui, though the timeline varies by location.

For visitors searching for Aramburo: if you arrive and find a Chedraui where an Aramburo used to be, that's expected — same location, new sign. The stores remain the same local resources they've always been; the ownership and branding are what's changing.
