KatKaw Cacao Bar y Chocolatería
La Paz's cacao bar — drinking chocolate from a Chiapas farm, in a 120-year-old house beside Teatro Juárez
Note: Its social pages also call it "KatKaw, cacao bar y cerámica".
KatKaw is a cacao bar and chocolate shop in the historic Centro, in a house more than 120 years old on Calle Belisario Domínguez, next to the Teatro Juárez. Instead of coffee, the focus is cacao: traceable Mexican cacao that comes directly from a farm in Chiapas and is made into drinking chocolate, desserts and ice cream, with other ingredients from Baja where possible.
Staff explain where the cacao comes from, and the café runs workshops on the history of cacao and on making chocolate. The space doubles as a place to paint ceramics or sit and read.
It is a good stop for anyone who wants something other than coffee, and an easy one to fit into a visit to the Teatro Juárez or a walk around the Centro. It opens in the afternoon and closes on Wednesdays and Sundays, and its hours change with the season, so check before you go.

The first cacao bar in town
KatKaw opened in 2024, the work of Antonio Díaz and his wife Jaazania, whose passion for cacao is the reason the shop exists. It was described the following year as the first and only cacao shop in La Paz.
The cacao comes directly from a farm in Chiapas, and the bar tries to source its other ingredients from within Baja. Besides drinks, desserts and ice cream, it holds workshops on the history and benefits of cacao and on chocolate making.
