Doce Cuarenta La Paz
La Paz's homegrown coffee house and bakery — downtown on Calle Madero, at Marina Puerta Cortés and at its Todos Santos roastery
Note: Also written DoceCuarenta or 1240, after its first address, Calle Madero 1240.
Doce Cuarenta is a Baja California Sur coffee company that started in La Paz, in a café at Calle Francisco I. Madero 1240 in the Centro. The address gave it its name: "doce cuarenta" is Spanish for twelve-forty. That downtown café is still open every day, a second La Paz branch serves Marina Puerta Cortés, and the flagship and roastery is on the highway at Todos Santos, which is also part of the municipality of La Paz.
The coffee is Mexican: beans from Chiapas, Veracruz and Oaxaca, roasted daily at the company's flagship in Todos Santos. Alongside espresso drinks and filter coffee there is a bakery counter and a food menu.
It is a good alternative to the chains if you want local coffee, and the Centro branch is open late, until 9:30 PM. The company also sells online through its own shop, and has one more café in Cabo San Lucas.

A La Paz café that grew into a B Corp
Doce Cuarenta opened in La Paz around 2014, at Francisco Madero 1240 in the Centro, and that first address became the name of every branch since. It has grown to four cafés in Baja California Sur: two in the city of La Paz, a flagship in Todos Santos and one in Cabo San Lucas.
Its beans come from plantations in Chiapas, Veracruz and Oaxaca and are roasted daily at the Todos Santos flagship. In March 2026 the company was certified as a B Corporation, a label for businesses that meet independent standards on how they treat workers, suppliers and the environment, with an overall B Impact score of 82.1.
