Gratitude Coffee Makers
Small-batch roaster in the Centro, buying direct from Veracruz, Chiapas and Oaxaca
Note: Also listed as Gratitude Specialty Coffee Roasters.
Gratitude Coffee Makers is a small specialty roaster and coffee bar in the Centro, on Calle Revolución de 1910. Its owners, Sergio and Gloria, roast the coffee themselves every Monday, from beans they buy directly from producers in Veracruz, Chiapas and Oaxaca, and also supply roasted coffee to hotels and restaurants around La Paz.
The bar is a morning place: open 7 AM to 2:30 PM on weekdays and 8 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, closed on Sunday. Try the espresso coffee tonic with orange peel, or Gloria's cold brew with milk, which the house calls the "cowbrown"; the flat whites and cold brew get good reviews too.
It is the place to go if you want to talk coffee with the people who roast it, and to buy freshly roasted Mexican beans to take home.

From the circus to the coffee roaster
Sergio, who grew up in Mexico City, worked as a circus instructor and a flight attendant before coffee. On a trip to California a friend's careful way of brewing got him hooked, and he and Gloria turned it into a roasting business. They chose the name Gratitude during the pandemic, as a reminder, in any language, to be thankful.
Today they roast every Monday morning, buy directly from producers in Veracruz, Chiapas and Oaxaca, and sell wholesale to hotels and restaurants as well as through the coffee bar.
