The Registro Civil (Civil Registry) records births, marriages, divorces and deaths in Baja California Sur and issues certified copies (actas). The Dirección Estatal, the state's head office, is in Fidepaz, on Calle Cabrilla at Boulevard Constituyentes de 1975.

Day-to-day registrations are handled at the local offices, called oficialías. In La Paz, Oficialía 01 is on Calle Yucatán at Allende in Los Olivos (it moved there in July 2025), and Oficialía 07 is in Unidad Indeco. Their addresses and phones are below.

For expats, the Registro Civil comes up when you marry in Mexico (only a civil marriage is legally recognized here), register a baby born in La Paz, or register a death. Certified copies of Mexican birth certificates can also be printed online at gob.mx/ActaNacimiento.
