Baja Dogs Sterilizations
Baja Dogs Programa de Esterilización, A.C. in Mexico
Baja Dogs Sterilizations brings free pet sterilization to underserved La Paz neighborhoods, to cut the number of abandoned and unwanted dogs. It carries on the sterilization campaigns of the former Baja Dogs La Paz, which has disbanded, and became a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2023. It is 100% volunteer.
Programs
Monthly neighborhood campaigns
Sterilization and education days at a local school, library or park. The team brings all supplies, approved licensed veterinarians operate, and a campaign often sterilizes more than 100 animals in one day. Families book in advance.
Neighborhood champions
Each campaign starts with a local partner, often a family matriarch, who spreads the word and signs up neighbors.
Surgery vouchers
For dogs that can't be done on a campaign day: a voucher for surgery at a participating vet at a reduced $700 MXN, paid to the vet. Vouchers are for rescued, abandoned and street dogs, not personal pets.
Results
More than 9,000 pets sterilized to date. 2025 campaigns: 180 dogs in January, 210 in March and 175 in April.
How to Help
Campaigns cost $4,000–$5,000 USD a month. About $30 USD (500 pesos) pays for one surgery; donations also buy tents, crates, cleaning supplies, leashes, collars, flea and tick medicine and food for volunteers.
