TMC Ferry — La Paz

Transportación Marítima de California (TMC) is a La Paz shipping line that has carried vehicles across the Sea of Cortez since 2002. Its three roll-on/roll-off cargo ships sail from Pichilingue, about 20 km north of downtown, to Mazatlán and Topolobampo three times a week each. Fares are per vehicle, and a car's fare includes its driver, so TMC suits travelers crossing with a car, motorcycle or RV. Bookings are by phone or at its offices; schedules and the rate sheet are on ferrytmc.mx.

Arrive at least 2 hours before departure

TMC's rule, so the crew can plan the loading. Sailing from La Paz to Mazatlán, customs at Pichilingue may inspect your vehicle (Baja California Sur is a free zone), and the army and navy check vehicles at all three ports. Carry your vehicle papers.

On Board

TMC runs cargo ferries, so most of your fellow passengers are truck drivers. Its ships, the Santa Rita, Santa Marcela II and San Jorge, are 137–142 m long.

  • Drivers and companions travel in the salón: an air-conditioned lounge with airline-style seats and movies
  • Two meals are included: dinner from 17:00 to 19:00 and breakfast from 7:00 to 8:00
  • A shop on board sells snacks and drinks; no alcohol is sold
  • Want to stay in your camper during the crossing? Ask TMC when you book
