Golf in La Paz: Two World-Class Courses Most Golfers Don't Know About

Baja golfers almost always head straight to Los Cabos — and miss two of the most interesting courses in Mexico, both a couple of hours north in La Paz. One is the country's first Gary Player Signature course; the other is the country's first true links course, reached by ferry across the bay. Both cost a fraction of the Cabo corridor, with a fraction of the crowds.

Set above the Sea of Cortez on the CostaBaja resort property just north of the city, El Cortes is a Gary Player Signature design that plays to a par 71 at nearly 6,920 yards from the championship tees. The signature par-5 'La Pintada' drops from a tee box almost 200 feet above the fairway with sweeping bay views. The clubhouse and dining are excellent, and it is an easy drive from central La Paz.

Mexico's first true links course, laid out in the Scottish tradition along the sandy El Mogote peninsula across the bay. Par 72, just over 7,000 yards, with the firm turf, coastal wind, and a St Andrews-style shared double green that make links golf distinct. It is also the first Audubon Signature Sanctuary course in Mexico. Access is by a short ferry across La Paz Bay — part of the appeal.

Why Play La Paz

Beyond the price and the lack of crowds, La Paz golf comes with the Sea of Cortez as a constant backdrop and two genuinely distinct experiences: a cliff-and-desert Gary Player course and a windswept coastal links unlike anything else in Mexico. Pair a round with whale sharks in winter or a day at Balandra, and you have a trip no Cabo package can match. The name of this site is a nod to it — links, in both senses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many golf courses are in La Paz?

Two championship courses: El Cortes Golf Club (a Gary Player Signature design on the CostaBaja resort) and Paraíso del Mar Golf Club (Mexico's first links course, on the El Mogote peninsula, reached by ferry). Both are par 71–72 and play over 6,900 yards from the tips.

Is golf cheaper in La Paz than Los Cabos?

Generally yes. La Paz green fees run well below the Los Cabos corridor, where marquee-name courses command premium resort pricing. La Paz offers two genuinely high-quality courses at a fraction of the cost and with far less crowding — a real value for golfers willing to look beyond Cabo. Confirm current rates and tee times directly with each club, as they vary by season.

How do you get to Paraíso del Mar golf course?

Paraíso del Mar sits on the El Mogote sand spit across the bay from central La Paz, and access is by a short ferry ride across La Paz Bay. The ferry crossing is part of the experience. Check current ferry timing with the club when you book your tee time.
